Eco-villages

What is an eco-village?

An eco-village comprises people who have come together to form a community with a low-impact way of life through shared land ownership. We are wanting to create an eco-village for the following reasons:

Social An eco-village is a community of people who have chosen to live with each other as neighbours and to work cooperatively to achieve their aims. Its social responsibility extends to its neighbourhood and the region.
Environmental An eco-village allows environmental practices which both minimise harm to the local environment and are ecologically-sustainable.
Affordable  An eco-village shares ownership of land and facilities and provides an economic way to gain access to, use of and guardianship over a substantial rural asset.
Experimental  An eco-village provides the opportunity to explore a range of approaches to sustainability, including agricultural self-sufficiency, low-consumption affordable living and a range of on-site employment options.
Educational  An eco-village promotes ecological-sustainability, cooperative housing solutions and community development, and provides opportunities for others to learn from its experience.
